This is a blissful moment in witnessing the inauguration of Hong Kong Utility Research Centre (HKURC) and the 5^th Anniversary of Hong Kong Institute of Utility Specialists (HKIUS). It is also my pleasure to continue my Presidency of  HKURC in the 08/09 session. Since its preparation stage, we have obtained sincere support from different parties and up till now, Honorary advisors and consultants have reached the number of 30 and 4 respectively, in which they are prominent academics and specialists from universities, utility related industries and associations of local, mainland China and overseas. I would like to thank you all for your enthusiastic participation to HKURC.

Your support to HKURC is pivotal and reflects the growing importance to collaborate with different parties, to share utility skills and experience, to explore new technology and techniques with the aim to reduce avoidable accidents and costs imposed to the utility industry and the public. By doing so, we hope to establish Utility Safety Index (USI) and a Scientific Citation Index (SCI) referred journal in the upcoming future in which to facilitate the professional standard of the industry and is beneficial to the general public at large.

As HKURC is still in its infancy and there is still room for further improvement, your continuous support and advice would be valuable to us. Last but not least, may ! wish HKIUS and HKURC every success in their future endeavors.
